Intro to Mana Moana: One Day Workshop
This workshop will provide you with a better understanding of the ancient worldviews and philosophies underpinning contemporary Pacific cultural understandings and practice. It is the perfect introduction to Mana Moana.
The content is aimed at sharing ancestral concepts and understandings that add value to team-building, more effective meetings, relationship building, and dispute resolution in the workplace. We will teach unique tools, policy development and project management approaches, and systems frameworks, based on core concepts from the Mana Moana canon. It will give you and your teams a new – but ancient – shared language to optimise the way you work, relate to each other and achieve your goals.
A written introduction to the material covered will be supplied, as well as PDFs of relevant published articles relating to contemporary challenges. In this workshop there will be an emphasis in understanding ways that people of all cultural backgrounds can relate, make decisions, policy and set strategy for – and with – Pacific peoples.
The flow of the programme allows an opportunity for information to be digested and integrated via activities, powerpoint presentations, small group work, open dialogue and individual reflexive exercises. This is an interactive and experiential one-day workshop perfect for professional development for work groups, community groups, and across whole of organisations, facilitated by Dr Karlo Mila and a member of the Mana Moana team.

Two Day Workshop: Integrating Mana Moana
The two-day workshop is an intro+ experience. It includes all the introductory material teaching all the core Mana Moana concepts and assists with explicitly embedding Mana Moana content into a workplace or organisation.
The two-day workshop also covers the ‘Doctrine of Discovery’ which is a history that provides insight into why many Pacific peoples – and tangata whenua - are disconnected from their indigenous knowledge. This is a journey into the root causes of colonisation, racism and unconscious bias. The ‘Doctrine of Discovery’ kōrero is derived from the work of Tina Ngata. This is followed by a focus on Haumanu – a restorative systems approach designed by Louise Marra.
All of this knowledge is framed using a Mana Moana approach. It aims to reduce the harm caused by racism. This is an interactive and experiential two-day workshop perfect for professionals, community groups, and whole of organisations.
This workshop values and creates time and space to reflect on positionality, relationality and intentionality. It has a genuine focus on reaping the diversity dividend that is possible when Pacific peoples are enabled to show up as their whole selves and bring much needed knowledge to decision and policy making tables.

Three-day Retreat: Experiencing Mana Moana
The three-day workshop is a delivered in an off-site retreat-format. This is a deeper dive into the core Mana Moana content, providing more guidance on how to integrate and prototype Mana Moana in workplaces. Participants receive mats, Mana Moana designed ie / lavalava, and kava cups.
The retreat format has a sustained emphasis on team-building and relationality valuable to all organisations. It creates enough space for exercises that increase self-awareness and self-reflection in praxis. The retreat also covers the ‘Doctrine of Discovery’ material informed by the work of Tina Ngata. The retreat provides an optimal opportunity to digest the Doctrine of Discovery content and talanoa about the implications of this history in our contemporary context.
The retreat is a great opportunity to learn and apply Mana Moana knowledge, tools, and systems change frameworks. This is an interactive and experiential retreat perfect for leadership teams, professional and community groups. It is aimed to reduce the harm caused by racism and increase understanding of Pacific cultural knowledge and approaches.

Multidimensional Mana Moana: Deeper Dives
Two Retreats +
The final Mana Moana offering is a bespoke multi-retreat experience. This is a creative, interactive and experiential retreat-based experience that is most focused on personal development and healing. The extended timespans provides enough space for expert guest teachers to be a part of the programme who are specialists in their field. Options include practitioners who have a more specialised focus on physical and spiritual wellbeing.
These retreat experiences branch out to focus on decolonised relationality with the environment. They also focus more deeply on ancestral connection and guidance. This our most holistic and multidimensional offering, exploring pre-colonisation Pacific content. Participants receive mats, Mana Moana designed ie / lavalava, and kava cups.
It is suitable for individuals and progressive workplaces who actively want to indigenise their personal, professional, and creative practice through Moana knowledge, language, concepts and who are open-minded and open-hearted to pre-colonial ways of being. These multi-retreat offerings can be custom-designed depending on the requirements of the group.

Mana Moana Online
We are excited to introduce a Mana Moana eLearning experience. On this journey through six modules, you will be introduced to 37 power words shared widely among Moana peoples. This journey will also introduce and guide you through the Tau tool, Vā centred leadership, the Vete Process for restoration, and our ancestral understandings of wellbeing, wisdom and harmony.
You will voyage to the metaphorical island of Motutapu, learning through ancestral language, proverbs and stories. You will dive into fundamental concepts, values and philosophy associated with Mana Moana, its core logic, and our Tau tool. This tool activates ancestral wisdom to guide you through the stages and phases of projects, policy-making, creative processes and ambitious personal goals that you may wish to achieve.
Filled with meditations, reflections, visual images, pronunciation guides and activities, we recommend going through these modules at a pace that works for you. Each module includes an hour or more of learning. There are moments for you to pause, reflect and connect, all coming together and moving you to a place of tau.
